National VOAD

 

Hurricane Harvey will have a lasting impact on the Gulf Coast of Texas. National VOAD members will be there providing relief and recovery for years to come, and will need your assistance.

Financial Donations: If you are an individual, please remember that CASH IS BEST at this time. Please donate to a Texas VOAD Member or a National VOAD Member to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

We have also included an in-kind donation form for individuals, that can be found here. If you are a company seeking to donate goods to the Hurricane Harvey Response efforts, please fill out the form located on the Corporate Donations page. This information will be sent to the appropriate parties as needs arise.

Donations

A financial contribution to a recognized disaster relief organization is the most effective donation to make. Public and private sector support of these voluntary organizations with financial contributions helps to ensure a steady flow of important services to our residents who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. A financial contribution is: 

• The most needed and most efficient way of helping those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

• Allows voluntary organizations to fund response and recovery efforts, obtain goods and services locally, and provide direct financial assistance to Hurricane Harvey survivors to meet their own needs.

• Allows you to make a financial contribution to the voluntary organization of your choice.

• If you need help in determining who to give to, the Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Texas VOAD) website (https://txvoad.communityos.org/cms/node/104) has a list of vetted disaster relief organizations who are providing services to our residents. Texas VOAD represents more than three dozen faith-based, community, nonprofit and non-governmental organizations. 

Unsolicited donated goods such as used clothing, miscellaneous household items, and mixed or perishable foodstuffs require helping agencies to redirect valuable resources away from providing services to sort, package, transport, warehouse, and distribute items that may not meet the needs of disaster survivors.

 If you wish to volunteer in response to Hurricane Harvey, please visit the Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster website (https://txvoad.communityos.org/cms/node/104) for a list of more than three dozen faith-based, community, nonprofit and non-governmental organizations that include volunteer engagement as a key component of their operations. 

• Please be patient and do not self deploy, as unexpectedly showing up to any of the communities that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey will create an additional burden for first responders. 

Although the need is great, and desire to help strong, it is important for residents to avoid donating material goods or self-deploying to help until our communities are safe and public officials and disaster relief organizations have had an opportunity to assess the damage and identify what the specific unmet needs are. Please continue to monitor this website for updated information. 

It is the generous spirit of our residents, nonprofits organizations, faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, private sector partners, and governmental agencies and partners working in a coordinated effort that will most effectively and efficiently help Texans recovery from Hurricane Harvey. 

Bulk Materials Donations or Trucking Volunteers

 

Those who have bulk materials or logistics services to donate may reach out to the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN). ALAN comprises hundreds of supply-chain businesses who stand poised to respond in the event of disasters. They are experts in transportation, warehousing, cold storage, and distribution, and they can help locate and move goods from suppliers to affected communities rapidly and efficiently.

Red Cross Recruiting Additional Volunteers 
to Respond to Hurricane Harvey

 

For Immediate Release, 8/28/2017

One-day trainings will prepare new and existing disaster workers for 14 day deployment.

Red Cross volunteers from across the Eastern New York Region are mobilizing to help support a multi-state response to Hurricane Harvey. The Red Cross is on the ground, offering people a safe place to stay as the life-threatening storm continues to strengthen. There has been a HIGH need for workers to rapidly deploy and provide mission critical work. The Red Cross offices below will be hosting Deployment Boot Camps to quickly register, onboard and train our local community to potentially assist with the relief efforts in the affected areas.

Volunteers must be willing and able to deploy for a minimum of 14 days after completing the training. The Red Cross will cover all training and travel costs for individuals who are deployed. Thank you for your interest in assisting the American Red Cross response to Hurricane Harvey!

If you are not currently a Disaster Cycle Services Volunteer, but would like to be one, we would love to see you here for the training! Also, feel free to forward this email to any friends or family who may be interested, but please note, deployments are done on an individual basis and there is no guarantee that friends/family will be able to travel or serve together.

*If you are a current Disaster Cycle Services Member who is trained and listed as a Disaster Responder please login to your Volunteer Connection account to update your availability. If you are a current Disaster Cycle Services Member who does not have an assigned Group, Activity, Position (GAP), and need either the Disaster Cycle Services An Overview Course and/or Shelter Fundamentals Course, please feel free to register for attendance or reach out to your local Disaster Program Manager for further details.

People who are unable to deploy as disaster volunteers but still want to help can do so by making a financial donation. The Red Cross depends on donations to provide immediate relief. Help people affected by Hurricane Harvey by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.
